The Deer dulcimer was created as a custom instrument for a player from Connecticut. The deer head is Walnut inlaid into a knotty Butternut top.

The butternut top was bookmatched to duplicate the knots on both sides of the soundboard. The knots were tight, and the left one had to be sawed out. The deer is reinforced from behind.

A pair of deer tracks complete the soundhole array.
