These Handmade Noters are turned in Charlotte, NC by a masked man (shown above
in a rare photo) known only as D.O.D.
Mountain Dulcimers were originally played by fretting the string or pair of strings closest to the player with a short stick or quill, known as a noter. The distinctive sound produced by sliding the noter along the frets, along with the drone of the remaining unfretted strings, constitutes the classic sound of the mountain dulcimer. D.O.D.'s noters combine imaginative designs with great craftsmanship and beautiful materials in a variety of sizes and shapes to fit your hand and your sense of style. Each noter is unique; each one pictured here is the one for sale, not just an example.
